Charolais Friends,
Our purebred Charolais bulls are ready for your inspection. We believe these bulls represent some of the best genetics available in the Charolais breed. We have included the performance data and EPDs for your analysis.
Please notice the TSI of the sale bulls and herd bulls. The TSI is a formal way of combing the performance EPD’s CE, BW, WW, YW, and Carcass. It does not include any maternal traits. The TSI is a dollar index. For example: If Bull A has a TSI of 250 and Bull B has a TSI of 200, then one could expect the progeny of Bull A to net $50.00 more return per head than Bull B (250-200=50). The TSI of our bulls is listed along with the breed rank. The TSI Charolais breed average for non-parents is $247.90.
This past fall one of our long-term bull customers for over 30 years sold nearly 1000 commercial calves. A large majority of the calves were char cross calves. The rest were blacks. The char cross calves averaged nearly $140.00 more per head than the blacks and notably the blacks were mostly 1 month older than the char cross. Performance pays!!!
We are selling 5 top bulls by auction at 12:30 PM on Thursday, 2-13-25 in Watertown, S.D. at the South Dakota Charolais Breeders Association State Auction Sale (4849P, 4107P, 4145P, 4635P, 424P). Liveauctions.tv will be available for on-line viewing and bidding. Register early to be approved for bidding. Watch our website for more information and pictures. We sell the rest of our bulls at a reasonable price by private treaty. Our policy is to receive ½ of the purchase price when you select a bull and the final ½ when he is delivered. If you desire to leave your bulls here until later after they have been semen tested and ultra-sounded for carcass data, you may do so. If you would like to leave your bull with us longer, satisfactory arrangements can be made to accommodate your needs.
As in past years we are asking that our customers, who sell their calves as feeders, please inform us where and when their calves will be sold. Keppen Charolais will inform cattle feeders who are interested in buying quality Charolais genetics. We hope this service will benefit all cattlemen involved so that all of us can recapture the benefits of using high quality Charolais genetics.
We would like to thank all repeat buyers for your confidence in our breeding program. We would also like to thank potential new customers for considering our breeding program. We believe the artificial breeding, embryo transfers, and natural breeding which we have done since 1987 have placed our genetics in the top of the Charolais breed and will provide greater profit for the cattleman. Please call or stop in to see the bulls available for your selection! Select now for later delivery.
Sincerely,
Keppen Charolais
